Ricky Gervais

It’s Ricky Gervais! (Creator and Exec. Producer of The Office, both BBC and NBC versions, as well as the BBC series, Extras.) No, he’s not a vampire… his teeth really look like that. Kinda.

This one took just under four hours… It appears I’m getting faster. Check out the video below!

Meryl Streep

I spent about four hours on this bad bo- er… girl. I’m really happy with it, since I very rarely get a good likeness when painting women. I recorded my screen while painting this one, too! So, now you can see how I do these things.

Bertrand Russell

I let myself be a bit more creative with this one, rather than sticking strictly to my reference – mostly because the reference was extremely low-resolution. That also explains why this one is a bit more painterly than the others.

Time taken: approx. 4 hours.

Kari Kilpela

It’s my friend, Kari, as a wee lass. She’d been asking me to do a caricature of her, but didn’t have any good photos for reference. So, as a joke, I spent a couple hours whipping this up from a photo she had on her Facebook.

Look at that bowl cut!

Seth Rogen

This is the first time I’ve had to use two distinct reference images. The main one, which I used for 95% of the painting, didn’t have glasses. The likeness was pretty strong, but I knew it would be a lot stronger with glasses on. So, I found an image at about the same angle, and fudged the glasses in from that one. I think it turned out pretty well.

Didn’t get a chance to record myself painting this one – it’s probably for the best though. This painting took me over 7 hours, mostly because I kept getting distracted with stuff online, or fixing stuff that didn’t need fixing.

Anyway, hope y’dig it!

Leo.

This one took me a bit longer than it probably should have… I just wasn’t all that into it until about the last half hour of working on it. It took about 4 hours. I’m still messing around with methods of painting hair and other things. I left this one a bit more painterly overall, compared to the previous two caricatures. Do you think it works better, or should I make everything nice and smooth?

Oh, and because I wasn’t a huge fan of it ’til the end, I didn’t take progress photos. I’ll be doing a screen capture video for the next one, though!

Hugh Laurie

It’s House! I’ve never really watched the show, but my teacher, Steve, told me to draw him… So I did. This one only took me about 3.5 hours (granted this one isn’t as detailed as Jeff Bridges.) I’m really happy about that. Hopefully, some day soon, I’ll be able to bust these out in an hour or two.

Here’s my progress. I should have saved a version soon after starting so you could see how I start these things, but by the time I thought about it, I had gone to far – I couldn’t undo back to the beginning. So, I saved a copy every half hour, give or take a couple minutes.

Jeff Bridges

I asked my friends on Facebook who I should draw… Jeff was the best suggestion offered. I spent about 6 or 7 hours on this. I need to get faster!

Tech 3 Commercial!

Here is what I’ve spent the past 5 weeks doing… a commercial for Kid Leashes! I was director, but mostly in name only… it was truly a group effort. Check the credits for my teammates’ names, and their duties. Hope you like it!

Gun-Toting Geriatric

I was planning on sketching some faces, but I really liked this sketch, so I polished it up.
